they were on the stage...
... well at least for some of the gig!
one of new zealand's finest exports, die! die! die! turned on what i think is the best gig that i have ever seen at the artrocker club, and could be the best gig i have seen this year!

the quite large crowd were an indication that this was going to be something special and the band exceeded all of the high expectations.

the punky, shouty, and sometimes electronically infused rock sounded ace - but that is really only half of the story. as you can tell by the shots that lads absolutely destroyed the buffalo bar.

jumping, climbing, sliding, crawling, falling on every surface available in the club - and considering the size of the place i am surprised that there were no rock related deaths ;)

think that i may had said this before... but see this band at any cost!

a scarily impressive performance
yep - the trend of rubbish titles just continues unabated.
the drowned in sound lads put on a monthly show in fopp records and this month's event saw the scare headline a gig that suffered from a slight lack of attendance.
twas an interesting gig. the set up had the potential to be the stuff of legends, or be a bit of a naff in store affair. as it turned out it was a bit of both.

while the support acts put in a fine performance considering the situation, the scare put in a belting performance and played as if the room was filled to the rafters - rather then to a room that was not even close to being slightly full.
i guess that due to the lack of people kiss, the lead singer, was able to take full advantage of the available floor space.
see this band at any cost!

ITS A FRONT COVER!
i still cannot believe that it has actually happened. as the title subtly suggest, i have had my shots used for the first time for the front cover of a magazine. the magazine in question is the uk based artrocker.

this is the next stop on my hopeful world photographic domination, and it is definitely one to tick off my "must do" list.

the shoot was for a welsh band called future of the left, and it was a treat shooting the lads. not having done much portrait/staged band shots i was a little nervous. but being the seasoned professionals they are, the lads were naturals.
for anyone in london, the magazine is available in BORDERS, HMV, VIRGIN, UNIVERSITY BOOKSHOPS, ALL COOL INDEPENDENT RECORD STORES, WH SMITHS AND NEWSAGENTS NATIONWIDE. so support a good cause (me) and buy a copy!

the hot hot maccabees
i need to warn you early, there maybe some comments in this entry that some people find hard to take - nah find offensive. so please be warned.
upon entering the astoria the beetroot red faced indie kids coming out of the main room gave an excellent indication of the sauna like temps that were awaiting us for the gig. and my god - it was stupidly hot inside.

insert obvious and horrible link - but the temps were not as hot as the band (sorry, this is the first offensive comment - but there is more). no seriously the band nailed it. their new tracks live destroying the more then up for it london crowd.

the most amazing and... well endearing part of the gig was the reaction of the lads at having made it to play in front of a sold out astoria (going to get a little offensive again).

the whole band were just so charming and sweet, and genuinely amazed to be playing at such a historic venue. a summer of success awaits the maccabees.

popular william
nothing better then an early week gig - especially when it is the simply amazing popular workshop.

my feelings for this band are bordering on obsessed stalking, but they are just so damn good. cracking catchy pop tunes, and they put on an ace show - jumping and gyrating all over the stage.
the headline spot was occupied by some other artrock big hitters - william. now, the band is almost impossible to google, but they are stacked with excellent music.
